Phuc Kien, the Fujian Assembly Hall, is the grandest of Hoi An's Chinese clan houses — a meeting place and temple built by merchants from Fujian province. Beyond the ornate triple gate you'll find courtyards, coiled incense spirals hanging from the rafters, and a main altar dedicated to Thien Hau, the sea goddess who protected sailors on the crossing. The dragon and carp details in the mosaics and woodwork reward a slow look. It's one of the five sites the Old Town ticket lets you into, and one of the most worthwhile. Dress modestly, as it's still an active place of worship.
