My Khe Beach with Da Nang city skyline and mountains in the background

My Khe Beach

Da Nang's main beach strip — 9km of sand, most of the tourist hotels, and seafood restaurants within walking distance of the water.

My Khe is where most first-time visitors end up, and for good reason. It’s a 9km arc of pale sand facing the South China Sea directly east of the city — wide, flat, and walkable along its entire length. The hotel strip runs parallel to the beach road (Võ Nguyên Giáp), and for most people, the distance between their room and the water is under five minutes on foot.

The short version

  • Best for: first-timers, beach-first travellers, families who want to walk to the sand
  • Distance to city centre: 2–3km; about ₫40,000–60,000 by Grab car
  • Distance to airport: 10 minutes; under ₫80,000 by Grab
  • Beach condition: wide, gentle waves, good for swimming Feb–Aug; rougher and less reliable Sep–Jan
  • Who skips it: those wanting quiet (it’s the busiest strip) or a cheaper base (the city centre undercuts it)

The vibe

It’s a proper resort strip — dense with hotels from budget guesthouses to 4-star beachfront towers. Evenings bring locals down to walk, exercise, and eat, and weekend nights add more noise. That said, it doesn’t have the chaotic feel of some Southeast Asian beach zones. The road is wide, footpaths exist, and there’s a long esplanade for the evening promenade.

The An Thuong neighbourhood just behind the beach (west of Võ Nguyên Giáp) is a pocket of good cafes, international restaurants, and guesthouses worth knowing about — slightly quieter and slightly cheaper than right on the beach road.

Accommodation

The widest selection of anywhere in Da Nang. Budget options start around ₫400,000–600,000/night for a clean guesthouse. Mid-range 4-star hotels with pools and beachside access run ₫1,500,000–3,000,000/night. The beachfront towers — Mandila Beach Hotel, Diamond Sea, and similar — book out in peak season (Feb–May), so lock in early if that’s when you’re coming.

Where to eat

Seafood is the main event. The stretch of restaurants just off the beach does fresh grilled fish, crab, and prawns — arrive hungry and point at what’s in the tanks. Expect ₫200,000–400,000/person for a proper seafood spread. For something cheaper and more local, morning food stalls along the beach road do bánh mì and phở from around ₫30,000–50,000.

The An Thuong area has better coffee shops and a handful of Western-leaning cafes for those who need a change of pace. For a full map of what to eat and where, see Da Nang food guide.

Getting around from My Khe

Grab covers everything. Car to the city centre: ₫40,000–60,000. Out to the Marble Mountains or Non Nuoc: ₫80,000–120,000. Motorbike hire runs about ₫120,000–150,000/day if you want to explore independently.

Walking the beach itself is free and good early morning. Dragon Bridge is about 2km north — a reasonable walk along the esplanade if you want a look at the city centre without a Grab. Hoi An is around 30km south — too far to walk, but an easy ₫200,000–250,000 Grab or shared minivan.

What’s nearby

The beach is the obvious draw. The Son Tra peninsula is about 20 minutes north by Grab — the Lady Buddha statue at Linh Ứng Pagoda is free to visit and worth a half-morning. The Marble Mountains are 20 minutes south and worth a half-day. Non Nuoc Beach sits right beside them if you want to see what a quieter stretch of coast looks like by comparison.

Skip this area if…

You want to spend most of your time in the city rather than on the sand. The centre is cheaper and better positioned for Han Market, the river, nightlife, and day-trip logistics. My Khe makes most sense when the beach is your actual priority — not just a backup plan.
