One of Hoi An's signature evening rituals: boarding a small wooden sampan on the Hoai River to release a floating flower lantern into the water. Boats hold up to five people and the ride lasts 20 minutes. The boat fare is 150,000 VND for 1–3 people, or 220,000 VND for 4–5. Lanterns cost 5,000–15,000 VND each from vendors along the riverbank. The experience is genuinely atmospheric after dark with the old town lit up and dozens of paper lanterns drifting downstream. Operates 4pm–9:30pm daily from the pier off Nguyen Thai Hoc Street in Hoi An's old town.
