The ruined temple city of the Cham kingdom, tucked in a jungle valley about an hour southwest of Hoi An. Built in red brick between the 4th and 13th centuries and dedicated to Shiva, My Son was the Champa's spiritual heart — think a smaller, quieter Angkor. War damage and time have left it battered, but the surviving brick towers, carved with dancers and Hindu gods, are genuinely atmospheric in the early morning mist before the crowds. A UNESCO site. Most visitors come on a half-day tour from Hoi An or Da Nang; the ticket includes a shuttle and a Cham dance performance.
