One of Hoi An's oldest surviving homes, Quan Thang was built by a Chinese captain over 300 years ago and it's a quieter stop than the busier heritage houses nearby. The pull here is the woodwork: carved beams, shutters and screens done by craftsmen from the Kim Bong carpentry village across the river, with fruit, birds and flowers worked into dark timber that's aged to a deep patina. There's no grand scale to it — it's a lived-in old house — but the detail is some of the finest in town. Covered by the Old Town ticket.
