The appeal is practical: early cafés, a night market that runs until 11pm, and enough restaurants to avoid repeat dinners across a fortnight. Where An Thuong actually is
An Thuong is not one street — it’s a neighbourhood roughly bounded by Vo Nguyen Giap (the beachfront road) to the east, Nguyen Van Thoai to the north, Nguyen Phuoc Nguyen to the south, and Hoang Dieu to the west. The name comes from four pedestrian side streets (An Thuong 1–4) that cut through the grid.
In July 2023, the city formalised a section of the area as An Thuong Walking Street, covering parts of Hoang Ke Viem, Tran Bach Dang, and the An Thuong lanes. This section closes to vehicles in the evenings when the night market runs.
In the wider My Khe picture: the northern strip of My Khe — Pham Van Dong and the upper part of Vo Nguyen Giap — is where the big hotels cluster and where most booking platforms default you. An Thuong sits at the southern end of My Khe, where the character shifts from hotel corridor to neighbourhood. The restaurants here serve people who live nearby, not just hotel guests on a one-night stop. You feel it on the bill, and usually on the plate.
Why base here over other parts of Da Nang
Versus the northern My Khe strip: An Thuong is quieter, cheaper for equivalent rooms, and has much better food diversity. The northern strip has more five-star options but also more tourist-facing restaurants with inflated prices and lower quality. If you’re not specifically after a large luxury hotel, An Thuong wins.
Versus the city centre / Han River: The Han River precinct is good for the Dragon Bridge and local markets, and hotels there are cheaper. But every beach day requires a Grab. An Thuong gives you both the beach and the food scene without sacrificing either. Unless you have a specific reason to prioritise the Han River area, An Thuong makes more practical sense.
Versus Non Nuoc / south Da Nang: The big Non Nuoc resorts — Furama, Pullman, Hyatt Regency — are proper full-compound properties with sprawling pools and private beach access. Budget (₫250,000–₫600,000/night): Small guesthouses and budget hotels throughout the grid. Fan or basic air-con rooms, sometimes shared bathrooms. Fine if you’re spending most of your time outside.
Mid-range (₫700,000–₫1,500,000/night): Best value sits here. Clean air-con rooms with en-suite, Wi-Fi, usually a small pool or rooftop terrace. This is what an Thuong does better than any other part of Da Nang. Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indian, Turkish, Italian, French, Mexican, and more — all within a 10-minute walk of each other. Some of it is pedestrian tourist fare. Vietnamese seafood: My Hanh is a fourth-generation restaurant with over 30 years of history and four floors of ocean-view dining — a big operation by local standards. Steamed clams with lemongrass, grilled tiger prawns, stir-fried crab — expect ₫200,000–₫400,000 per person for a proper meal. Indian: An Thuong has the highest concentration of Indian restaurants in Da Nang — noticeably more than any other part of the city. The night market
The An Thuong Night Market runs along Tran Bach Dang Street every night from 6pm to 11pm. Around 40 stalls line the pedestrianised section.
What’s there: bánh xèo (Vietnamese sizzling pancake), mì Quảng (central Vietnamese noodle soup), bún bò Huế (spicy beef noodles), com hen (baby clam rice), grilled skewers, seafood BBQ, crispy rice paper, boba tea. International stalls mix through the lineup — Korean snacks, Japanese bites, burgers, and fresh fruit.
What it costs: Most dishes sit under ₫100,000. Grilled skewers run ₫15,000–₫30,000 each. A full dinner — two dishes and a drink — is ₫80,000–₫150,000 per person. Around 90% of stalls accept QR payment; carry ₫50,000–₫100,000 in small notes for the ones that don’t.
It’s not as large as Helio Night Market or the Son Tra walking street, but it’s directly in the neighbourhood and honest on price. Good for a first-night dinner when you’ve just landed and want something easy, or a weeknight option when you don’t want to research a proper restaurant.
Bars and nightlife
An Thuong is not Da Nang’s nightlife centre — the Dragon Bridge and Bach Dang Street area handles that — but it has enough for a quiet night out.
Hair of the Dog: The most consistently mentioned bar in An Thuong. Two-storey space, craft beer list, live music several nights a week, kitchen stays open past 11pm. A standard draught beer runs ₫30,000–₫50,000; craft beers and cocktails ₫80,000–₫150,000. Fine for one more beer after dinner, or for staying considerably longer.
Heaven Bar: Straightforward, good outdoor seating, more local crowd. Lower key than Hair of the Dog.
Bamboo Pub: Small, long-running, relaxed. Fine for a nightcap.
Most bars in An Thuong close by 1–2am. If you want to go later, Grab to the Han River strip. The Dragon Bridge fire show (Saturdays and Sundays, 9pm) is worth the trip for the first time — it’s 15–20 minutes and ₫80,000–₫120,000 by Grab.
The beach
My Khe Beach is 200–400 metres east from most An Thuong accommodation — a 3–5 minute walk. The An Thuong end of the beach is the southern part of My Khe, which runs quieter than the hotel-heavy northern strip, particularly on weekdays.
Swimming conditions are generally calmer from February through August — warm water (28–30°C), lifeguards stationed at My Khe through the main season. Da Nang airport is about 6km northwest. A Grab car costs ₫80,000–₫120,000 and takes 15–20 minutes to An Thuong depending on traffic.
